Since their exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York Gert and Uwe Tobias rank among the shooting stars of the international art scene. The twins, born in 1973 in Romania, emerged with large-scale woodcuts with motivic borrowings of eastern European folk art. Parallel to these small drawings came into being. These are characterised by their multifarious and innovative figuration of acrylic paint, ball-pen and collages on the one hand and the pure letterpress printing of the typewriter on the other. Both build two largely independent works types in the oeuvre of the brothers, who have their first solo exhibition in Ludwigshafen.
